An informative site built through necessity, due to the appalling behaviour of local Councilliars supported by the restrictive censorship policies of the local press in the Portishead area who feel it is their duty to remove any factual statements of wrongdoings by local Councilliars

Councilliars   Quotes / Lies

“If you want favours from councillors, do not write to papers!”

Cllr Felicity Baker who cohabits with Council Leader Nigel Ashton, who between them probably deposit the entire council taxes of a few streetfuls of households into their bank accounts every month…. better than wasting the cash on public services when this is her attitude...

One of our favourite quotes, after the one above:

Councillor Knight when asked by a local resident why she sat and said nothing when her fellow Councillor Terry openly lied at a Scrutiny Panel meeting.

“That’s Politics!”

At the skate park scrutiny panel meeting Councillor Pasley stated:

"I have asked every member of my ward and nobody supports the skatepark at the Lake Grounds"

This is a lie as documented evidence shows that a large percentage of residents who live in his ward gave full support to the skatepark. A simple look at the planning application shows exactly how many people supported the skate park.  Planning application

As has been stated elsewhere on this site, there were 450 letters in support of the skate park, yet only 31 letters of objection. Considering there are over 2000 residents in Councillor Pasley’s ward, we think he has strayed somewhat into the land of make believe.

This is an interesting comment left on one of the youtube videos by Annette Hennessey who has long  stood up for the good of Portishead.

I also asked Cllr Knight at the skatepark scrutiny meeting in the Town Hall, if I could now disclose the verbal information she gave me regarding a secret meeting with other councillors and a mystery developer. She said no. I was hoping she would raise with the Standards Committee, her actions and concerns as a result of that meeting. If what she alleges is true she has a duty under the Code of Conduct to report it. As do other councillors. Residents deserve facts not to be kept in the dark.

The council recently updated their own code of conduct and it no longer contains the requirement that councillors should report their concerns about abuse of that code by fellow councillors. Odd that.

Cllr Terry NSC Scrutiny Panel Jan 6th: Quote

" Portishead Town Council Did not support the skatepark at the lake grounds"

FACT: Portishead Town Council minutes and documentary evidence confirms that the Town Council did support the skate park at the lake grounds. As can be proven by the following statement made by Councillor Terry three months earlier.

Cllr Terry 11th Oct 2011 : Quote:

“This town council voted democratically by majority to support the skate park groups application for planning consent at the lake grounds, and also again by vote sent a letter of support for that groups application for landlords consent."

So what happened to change his mind and fabricate the lie told in January, a lie other councilliars present stayed silent about even though they knew the panel and the public were being lied to. How much political pressure was used or old boys influence? Is that democracy?

Of course Coucilliar Pasley has come out with some corkers in his time. This one actually sums up his thoughts on putting his political allegiance ahead of public interest and the simple and well supported request that youngsters should have a skate park at the Lake Grounds.  The majority of people in Portishead used to rely on the sparse information fed to the local media and assumed it to be accurate. The reality is so very far away…..

"As you know, Felicity (Baker) and I approached Gordano School and they agreed in principle to giving a parcel of land for a skatepark which is more central than the Lakegrounds.  I am making an announcement in the press this week.  This is a Tory District Council initiative and therefore any further moves to attempt to locate a skatepark on the Lakegrounds regardless of the outcome of the hearing will be unhelpful and counter productive to our efforts".

"With the 2011 elections fast approaching, we need to be singing off the same hymn sheet and at the moment it seems we are not on the subject of a skatepark in Portishead.  Your NSC colleagues have made it clear - no skatepark on the Lakegrounds".

To be clear, political persuasion such as the above, goes against the councillors' Code of Conduct.

There is a of course a track record of unforgivable quotes by this man….

27 April 2004 Guardian

The arguments of the objectors, as represented in various media by local councillor Dave Pasley, have been quite inventive. The screening centre was "wholly inappropriate in this location". He added: "The main issues are parking and transport. Parking on the roads and in front of people's houses is completely unacceptable and that is what will happen."

And then there are the possible protests. "[Many illegal immigrants] bring supporters to help lobby their cases - the residents shouldn't have to put up with people shouting and chanting every day." And finally there's all the intolerable strolling around. "I realise," said Pasley, "that the subject of asylum is emotive and I personally abhor bigotry. But if visitors to this centre are allowed to walk through the estate, that is just not on."

Presumably other sorts of visitors, more sensitive to local concerns, teleport themselves. It seems kids with skate boards aren’t his only issue! …. ah, yes, there was also a nursery and a girls home and he even objected to his own neighbours extending their property, even though his own property has undergone lots of changes over the years…

….. And just to remind our wonderful councillors of the council code of conduct, as they seem to fail on almost every aspect of it……

Portishead Town Council has adopted this Code of Conduct to promote and maintain high standards of behaviour by its members and co-opted members whenever they conduct the business of the Council including the business of the office to which they were elected or appointed or when they claim to act or give the impression of acting as a representative of the Council.

This Code of Conduct is based on the principles of selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty, and leadership.

And just in case there is any doubt, a little help with what these words mean…..

Selflessness:  the quality of unselfish concern for the welfare of others, acting with less concern for yourself than for the success of the joint activity

Integrity: Steadfast adherence to a strict moral or ethical code

Objectivity: The state or quality of being objective

Accountability: the obligation of an individual or organisation to account for its activities, accept responsibility for them, and to disclose the results in a transparent manner.

Openness: Attitude of ready accessibility (especially about one’s actions or purposes), without concealment, not secretive

Honesty: The quality of being or condition of being honest, truthful and sincere.

Leadership:  the position or function of a leader, a person who can guide or direct a group, preferably with all the above qualities
